News and Announcements

Freedom to be Born March - Saturday 6th September at 10.30am (assemble at Treasury Gardens, Melbourne): the abortion bill has now been thrust into the Victorian Parliament. On 19th August the government introduced its radical abortion plan. The actual debate will begin on 9th September. We will march against abortion on the weekend before the debate. Enquiries: Right to Life Australia. Tel 9387 7098; email rtl at rtlaust.com.

This coming Friday is the First Friday of the month. The evening Mass will be followed by Benediction, Compline, and all night adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Confessions will be heard before and during Mass. We will dedicate this Friday’s Vigil to reparation for the sin of abortion, and to ask the Divine assistance to prevent the Abortion Bill from becoming law.

Possible Community Pilgrimage 2009: consideration is being given to the possibility of a pilgrimage to Rome, Loretto and traditional monasteries of France for two weeks after Easter next year (around 13th - 27th April); this might also take in the ANZAC Day commemoration at Villers-Bretonneux. Total cost per person (including airfares) would likely be between $4,000-$5,000. Those interested (no commitment is necessary at this time) are asked to contact Fr Tattersall by email or letter.

Decoration of Altar: thank you to those who have already volunteered to assist with the preparation of flowers for the Altar at St Aloysius’. Another few volunteers would make it possible to have a roster so that no one is overburdened. It is envisaged that an Altar Society or Guild might be established for those engaged in this work, to unite them in prayer and fellowship. Those interested are asked to contact Fr Tattersall, or to leave their details on the sheet provided at the back of the Church.

Christ the King pilgrimage: 24th - 26th October. It’s time to start preparing! Details are available in the vestibule at St Aloysius’.

First Confessions and First Holy Communion: parents are invited to contact Fr Tattersall (by ‘phone or email) to prepare their children for Confession and First Holy Communion. First Communion will be celebrated on Gaudete Sunday (14th December). The usual age for First Communion is seven.

Fr Tattersall will be absent until Friday on account of illness in his family. He would be grateful for prayers for his father.

Catholic Book Display Day for Homeschoolers, Catechists & Parents: St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Iona, Saturday 13th September, 10.00am – 4.00pm. Cost: $5 per family/person. Tea and coffee are provided (but no food). Enquiries: call Bernie on 5968 5787, or email providence at dodo.com.au.
